After family feud ahead of UP elections, Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav is no more the torch bearer of party’s fortunes. It was evident during the election campaigning that he was just a shadow of himself.

Somewhere, he is no more the party’s main protagonist for election campaigning. It becomes clearer with the fact that during the 2012 Assembly elections, Mulayam Singh Yadav addressed over 300 rallies whereas in the present election, he addressed only 3 rallies.

There is no doubt that since the family feud, Mulayam’s son Akhilesh Yadav has taken party’ realm of affairs. Akhilesh was very active during the election campaigns and addressed more than 200 rallies.

While, Mulayam Singh’s brother Shivpal Yadav was also not very active during election. He very much confined himself to his areas only. This is also a testimony that the other faction that entered into battle with Akhilesh is now dormant.

It is for the first time in five decade long career, Mulayam Singh Yadav is sitting on the fence during election campaigning. He spent most of the times at home. His job mostly during present election was tracking for news on television about son’s election campaign. He is not flying across the states in chartered planes and helicopters like the 2012 Assembly polls.

However, since the time family feud came out in open, it has been very embarrassing scenario for Mulayam. As a party patriarch, he has asserted many times that party will not be broken and vowed to take along everyone in party’s quest to assume power in the state.

Mulayam’s statements and hard work of the past signifies that whatever would have happened but still he wants to see his party at top.

As the dust have been settled post the family feud and there is no such signs of feud coming to the fore with a long silence during the election campaigning, it can be inferred that party has somewhere put the family feud behind and is hoping to win the present election.

Mulayam has expressed that his son Akhilesh would again be Chief Minister of state. He desired to see his son leading from front. Now, if Samajwadi Party wins the election, Mulayam is most likely to don the hat of a party’s guide. With all the experience that he has, he would be guiding the party during all kinds of affairs.

But, if in case Samajwadi Party loses the election, there could well be possibility of Mulayam walking into oblivion. The political heavyweight that he once was would be a thing of past. In the past, Mulayam used to be always inundated with visitors. But, during the present election, there were very less people visiting him.

Here, there might be a case that it could be the beginning of dusk in his political career. The 77-year-old party veteran is likely to pass on the baton to his political heir Akhilesh Yadav. With that an era in the political scene would come to an end.
