The political bandwagon of assembly polls is soon going to rest, 35 days of phase-wise polling and extensive campaigning by major political parties makes up for the mega-verdict on the most important day of 2017. March 11- the D-Day in Indian politics.
A lot has been at stake for the major political honchos of the country. The mega-verdict also means a lot for Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party.
After defying the trends and overcoming all odds, AAP swept the Delhi assembly elections in 2015 and now the party is eying to create a sensation in Punjab and Goa, where it is making a debut.
The electoral results of 157 assembly constituencies in Punjab and Goa will decide the fate of Kejriwal's party status as a 'national party.'
A lot is at stake for AAP as the March 11's verdict will decide how the party is going to survive in the upcoming assembly elections, especially Gujarat, where it is slated to fight the polls in 2018.
Much at stake for AAP in Punjab
Electoral equations in Punjab looks evenly poised for the Aam Aadmi Party. Coming up as a strong contender right with its groundwork in the state one year prior to the elections, AAP is looking to give a tough fight to Congress and BJP-Akali Dal’s coalition.

If the party registers a victory in the state, it will expand its political armour and facilitate its entry into a larger state nationally. Basically winning Punjab will ensure AAP, an immunity of having its dominance in 2 states or we should say AAP will get power in a full-fledged state. Also defeating the political bigwigs of the country- BJP and Congress will enhance AAP’s reputation in the national political arena.
AAP-entry in Goa
The political scenario in Goa too looks interesting. With the strong presence of incumbent BJP government in the coastal state, Congress is not too weak to take back the thrones in Goa. With the entry of a new player, the equation has now become more complicated. With Exit polls suggesting a hung assembly, it would be really interesting to see if AAP emerges as a ‘king maker’ or it will fall flat on the seat tally.

A win for AAP in the smallest state of the country will help the party to extend its stronghold in the western part of the nation and also to challenge the existence of two-party dominance in the states. While a defeat in the state will let the party’s morale down with the party having nothing to lose from Goa. In the similar scenario, the party will definitely get to learn a lot from the experience
