Polls For 55 Rajya Sabha Seats To Be Held On March 26, Announces Election Commission

These seats from 17 states are falling vacant on different dates in April.

Elections to 55 Rajya Sabha seats falling vacant in April will be held on March 26, the Election Commission announced on Tuesday. These seats from 17 states are falling vacant on different dates in April. The ECI said in a statement: "The term of office of 55 members of the Rajya Sabha elected from 17 States is due to expire on their retirement in April, 2020."

Of these 55 states, seven seats are from Maharashtra while six seats are in Tamil Nadu. Elections will also be held for five seats from West Bengal, five seats from Bihar, four seats from Odisha, four seats from Andhra Pradesh, four seats from Gujarat, three seats from Rajasthan, three seats from Madhya Pradesh, three seats from Assam, two seats from Jharkhand, two seats from Haryana, two seats from Chhattisgarh, two seats from Telengana and one seat each from Himachal Pradesh, Manipur and Meghalaya.

These are the members whose term is ending in April 2020:
MAHARASHTRA: Husain Umar Dalwai, Amar Shankar Sable, Rajkumar Nandlal Dhoot, Sharadchandra Govindrao Pawar, Abdul Majid Haji Ahmed Memon, Ramdas Bandu Athawale, Sanjay Dattatraya Kakade
ODISHA: Anubhav Mohanty, Narendra Kumar Swain, Sarojini Hembram, Ranjib Biswal
TAMIL NADU: Sasikala Pushpa, K Selvaraj, Tiruchi Siva, S Muthukaruppan, Rangarajan, Vijila Sathyananth
WEST BENGAL: Ritabrata Banerjee, Jogendranath Chowdhury, Dr. Kanwar Deep Singh, Manish Gupta, Ahmad Hassan

The notification would be issued on March 6 with the last date of filing of nominations would be March 13. The polling would be on March 26, from 9 am to 4 pm. The votes would be counted at 5 pm on the same day.
