Encounter underway in South Kashmir's Shopian, 2 Army personnel injured

New Delhi:

An encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district late Thursday night. The exchange of fire took place in in Pandushan village area following a cordon-and-search operation by a joint team of Indian Army, CRPF and Jammu and Kashmir police.

"Shopian encounter: Two Army personnel injured, operation continues," the news agency ANI reported.

As per the latest reports, two army personnel have recieved injuries while 2-3 Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) are believed to be trapped in the nocturnal gunfight that ensued at about 1:50 am in the intervening night of August 1 and August 2. The encounter was underway when the last reports came in.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, a vehicle of 55 Rashtriya Rifle (RR) was targeted by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Zahid Bagh village of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district earlier today. While the vehicle has suffered a minor damage, no loss of life has been reported in the attack so far.
