New Delhi:
The Enforcement Directorate sleuths on Thursday conducted raids at the Bengaluru office of the Amnesty International in connection with the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) probe.
The ED raids at the office of the London-based non-governmental human rights organisation started at around 2 pm and were underway till the time the report was filled.
According to a report published in The Hindu in August 2018, the ED had initiated a probe against the NGO for the alleged violation of the FEMA act.

The Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act unit had detected that Amnesty International-UK had infused over Rs 36 crore into Amnesty International-India through commercial channels.
The Amnesty International-India had received the said amount between May 2014 and August 2016. Besides the Bengaluru office, the ED sleuths have also conducted raids at another location related to the non-profit organisation.

The raids at the office of Amnesty International came just two weeks after the ED searched the Bengaluru office of Greenpeace – another non-profit international NGO and froze its accounts.
