Union Minister Smriti Irani on Saturday launched a blistering attack on former Congress president Rahul Gandhi over his ‘Savarkar remark’, which he made at Congress’ Bharat Bachao Rally in Ramlila Maidan. Addressing a rally in the support of Citizenship Amendment Act in Varanasi, Irani said I want to tell Rahul Gandhi that even after 10 generations, he will not be able to match the courage of Savarkar.

Earlier, speaking at ‘Bharat Bachao’ rally in December last year, Rahul Gandhi had said, “My name is Rahul Gandhi, not Rahul Savarkar; I will never apologise for speaking truth and nor will any Congressman do so.”
Taking a dig at the Congress party, Smriti Irani added that the Grand Old Party had jailed Atal Bihari Vajpayee during emergency. Chaudhary Charan Singh, Jai Prakash Narayan were also imprisoned but it (Congress) released smuggler Karim Lala in Mumbai.

UP CM Yogi Adityanath, who was also present with Irani at the pro-CAA rally, said, “Congress was creating hindrances in delivery of judgement in Ayodhya case. Before 2019 polls, a Congress leader filed a plea in Supreme Court, saying order shouldn't be passed. We are grateful to the court for paving way for construction of temple.”
Adityanath further attacked the Congress, BSP, SP asking them to reveal their ‘relation’ with the Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI). “Their support for banned groups like SIMI, PFI and for elements which raise anti-national slogans reflects upon true character of opposition parties,” said Yogi Adityanath.
Moreover, Rahul Gandhi had also accused the Prime Minister of singlehandedly "destroying" the economy at the Bharat Bachao rally saying, "It is Prime Minister himself and not India's enemies who has destroyed our economy and (he) still calls himself a patriot".
