The alleged suicide of an ex-serviceman in Delhi over the implementation of the One Rank One Pension (OROP) scheme created a political slugfest on Wednesday with opposition Congress and other rival parties targetting the Modi government over the issue.Â
Wednesday's bedlam began with Delhi's deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia's visit to the RML hospital to meet Ram Kishan Grewal's bereaved family.
Police also detained Grewal's relatives who were not ready to send his body for post-mortem.
Later in the day, several leaders including Congress vice-president made a beeline at the hospital to meet and console Grewal's family. However, police did not allow them to enter the hospital premises and detained them for few hours.Â
The incident triggered furore in the political arena as the parties questioned Centre's strategy in dealing with the situation. We take a look at who said what in this regard:
Rahul Gandhi: What is your name? You think the family of India’s martyr should be arrested? Do you not feel ashamed?
Manohar Parrikar: OROP should be kept away from politics, that will be better. Rahul Gandhi should not politicise this.
Arvind Kejriwal:Â Both farmers and soldiers are committing suicide in Modi Raj. That means the Prime Minister is lying that OROP has been implemented. Why would Ram Kishan ji have committed suicide if OROP was being implemented?
We will meet the family, thats my responsibility. Something is dodgy, why arent they letting us meet the family?: Delhi CM #Exserviceman pic.twitter.com/uASn0cd4UB
