The Modi-Trump meeting came against the backdrop of the Indian government revoking the special status to Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcating the state into two Union Territories on August 5. The move has further escalated the already heightened tension between India and Pakistan.

Meanwhile, PM Modi is scheduled to visit US next month, during which he will address the UN General Assembly and is expected to have a round table with the top CEOs of the US energy companies in Houston.
