Fire crackers accidentally explode in Purulia, none injured

Fire crackers stored in a one-storey house, apparently for celebrations after Assembly poll results are announced on May 19, exploded today ripping off the roof in Raghunathpur town here, police said.

Purulia Superintendent of Police Roopesh Kumar said no injury has been reported so far.

He said a police team has rushed to the spot and cordoned off the house.

The owner of the house Amitava Goswami had rented out the one-storied house. Both - the owner and the tenant - were absconding after the incident, the SP said.

He said the explosion may have been triggered by a lighted bidi which someone may have flung casually.

The fire crackers may have been stored for the victory celebrations after the results are announced on May 19, the SP said, adding the political affinity of the person who had stored it was not known.
