Authorities on Friday issued a flood alert in Jammu and Kashmir as Jhelum river was flowing above the critical 21-feet mark in Anantnag district.
People living in the low lying areas near the Jhelum river were asked to remain vigilant following the flood alert. Rescue and relief teams were helping the affected people in several inundated areas in Kulgam and Shopian.Â
Schools in Kashmir division were closed on Saturday as a precautionary measure in wake of flood alert in the Valley.
"In view of the incessant rains, inclement weather and as a precautionary measure, all schools in Kashmir division to remain closed today," Syed Abid Shah, Srinagar Deputy Commissioner said.

Amarnath Yatra resumes after a brief halt
Meanwhile, the Amarnath yatra on Baltal and Pahalgam routes, which was suspended for the day, resumed after the weather improved. The air sorties by the administration from Baltal base camp also resumed.
Earlier, landslides triggered by heavy rains in the Valley halted Amarnath Yatra from Pahalgam route. The yatra was already suspended from Baltal route since Friday due to the inclement weather situation and landslides.
