Former Delhi BJP president, MLA and senior Sangh Associate Mange Ram Garg on Saturday morning passed away at the age of 82 due to the prolonged illness.

Former Delhi BJP president, MLA and senior Sangh Associate Mange Ram Garg on Saturday morning passed away at the age of 82 due to the prolonged illness. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and working president JP Nadda condoled the demise of Mange Ram Garg.

In a statement, Mange Ram Garg’s family said that he was ailing and breathed his last at 7:30 am at a private hospital. “The body will be placed at his residence in Ashok Vihar at 11:30 am and later shifted to the Delhi BJP headquarters where it will be kept between 12 pm to 1 pm for people to pay homage,” the statement added.

The statement further read that the body of former Delhi BJP president will be donated to a hospital according to his wish.

In a tweet, President Ram Nath Kovind said, "Sad to learn of the passing of Shri Mange Ram Garg, a very senior politician and dedicated, grassroots leader in Delhi. His service to the people, particularly in the national capital, will be cherished. My condolences to his family members and many well-wishers."

In a series of tweet, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “Shri Mange Ram Garg Ji had a deep connect with Delhi and that was seen in the manner in which he selflessly served the people of the city. He played a pivotal role in strengthening BJP in Delhi. His demise is saddening. My thoughts are with his family and supporters. Om Shanti.”

“Leaders like Shri Mange Ram Garg Ji are assets for any party. They work selflessly at the grassroots and touch the lives of several people through various community service initiatives. The good work Garg Ji did would continue to be remembered for years,” he tweeted further.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh too posted a tweet stating that Mange Ram played a great role in strengthening the party.

In the meantime, BJP working president JP Nadda tweeted saying Garg's demise is an "irreparable loss" to the party. He conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family.

 

A confectioner by profession, Garg registered his first political victory in the year 2003 when he won from the Wazirpur assembly constituency. In the next Assembly election - in 2008, Garg lost to Congress' Hari Shanker Gupta but by a very slim margin of about three thousand votes.

The late leader was entrusted with many significant responsibilities of BJP in Delhi. Under his leadership, BJP registered strong performances in local municipal body elections as well. He was also considered close to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
