Former prime minister and Bharatiya Janata Paty (BJP) stalwart Atal Bihari Vajpayee, surrounded by closed ones and top national leaders, passed away at AIIMS hospital in New Delhi on Thursday following multiple organs failure. He was undergoing treatment for kidney tract infection, chest congestion, urinary tract infection and reduced urine output and was kept on life support for the last three days. He was 93.
"It is with profound grief that we infrom about the sad demise of former prime minister of India, Sgri Atal Bihari Vajpayee at 05:05 pm on 16.08.2018," the Media and Protocol Division of AIIMS, New Delhi said in its press release.

Several top national leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah, National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah, Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik and BJP veteran L K Advani, rushed to AIIMS in the day on hearing his worsening condition, to pay their last visit to the BJP leader and be beside him at his last moment.’
Vajpayee, who has been suffering from prolonged illness, was admitted in AIIMS on June 11 following his deteriorating health condition. His condition worsened on Wednesday evening following multiple organs failure. Following the news, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited AIIMS to inquire about his health on late Wednesday.

In a late-night health bulletin, doctors at AIIMS said that his condition deteriorated further in the last 24 hours and he was put on life support system.
The 93-year-old BJP veteran had one functional kidney and was a diabetic. He suffered a stroke in 2009 and reportedly developed dementia.
Huge crowds of supporters and well-wishers gathered outside the hospital, the BJP Headquarter and Vajpayee’s residence amid the news of his critical health condition.

Security was beefed up at all these places and the BJP cancelled all its planned events, including its national executive meet in the national capital.
One of the oldest politicians in the country, Vajpayee was loved and adored by all across party lines and nationwide. May his soul Rest in Peace.
