Former Punjab DGP KPS Gill passed away at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi after sudden cardiac arrest due to cardiac arrhythmia.

Doctors say KPS Gill was suffering from End Stage Kidney Failure and significant Ischemic Heart Disease. He had been recovering from Peritonitis.

Gill was admitted on May 18 under the care of Dr DS Rana, Chairman, Department of Nephrology and Board of Management. According to Dr Rana, "KPS Gill was suffering from End Stage Kidney Failure and significant Ischemic Heart Disease. He had been recovering from Peritonitis but died of sudden cardiac arrest due to cardiac arrhythmia."

PM Modi condoles GIll's demise

Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the demise of Gill, saying he will be remembered for his service to the nation in the fields of policing and security.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh express sorrow

The Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has condoled the passing away of Shri KPS Gill, former Director General of Police (DGP), Punjab.

Singh said that he is saddened to learn of Shri KPS Gill's demise. He said that Gill is known for his bravery and courage and he always inspired others by leading from the front.

The Home Minister offered his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family of Shri KPS Gill. “May God give them strength to bear this loss”, Shri Rajnath Singh said.

Kanwar Pal Singh Gill

Padma Shree awardee, Gill was best known for two terms as Director General of Police (DGP) for Punjab. He was credited for having brought the Punjab insurgency under control.

82-year-old Gill had retired from the Indian Police Service in 1995.

Gill was an author, editor, speaker, consultant on counter-terrorism, president of the Institute for Conflict Management and president of the Indian Hockey Federation (IHF).
