The attack took place at around 2:30 pm when Assam Rifles personnel, along with Territorial Army personnel, were on their way to fetch water from a river.

The suspected NSCN (Khaplang) terrorists attacked them with Improvised Explosive Device (IED) and hand grenades near Aboi, some 35 kilometers away from the district headquarter.

“There are reports of an encounter that took place around 2.30pm. The Khaplang faction is suspected to be behind the attack on Assam Rifles,” Mon district superintendent of police Vechipa Vise said.
