BJP stalwart and former finance minister Arun Jaitley died on Saturday at AIIMS. He was 66. In a brief statement, the hospital said Jaitley died at 12.07 pm. It is with profound grief that we inform about the sad demise of Arun Jaitley, former Finance Minister of Government of India, at 12.07 pm on August 24, the AIIMS said.

Jaitley was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here on August 9 and was treated by a multi-disciplinary team of senior doctors. Hospital sources had earlier said he was on life support. Jaitley, a lawyer by profession, had been a key member of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Cabinet in the BJP government’s first term. He held the finance and defence portfolios, and often acted as the chief troubleshooter of the government.

Jaitley got Married to Sangeeta Dogra on May 24th 1982, and was the proud father of a son Rohan and a daughter Sonali.

Wife:

The 1952-born Arun Jaitley was married to Sangeeta Jaitley, daughter of former finance minister of Jammu and Kashmir Giridhar Lal Dogra. Though not seen much in his political endeavours, Mrs Jaitley has been a strong presence in her husband's life.

Daughter:

Arun Jaitley has two children, including a daughter named Sonali who is a lawyer. Sonali Jaitley was born in June 1983.

Son:

Arun Jaitley's son Rohan is a lawyer. Rohan currently practices at Delhi High Court. He studied Master of Laws ((LLM) from Cornell University in the United States.
