Gangaur is one of the most important, popular and colorful festivals of Rajasthan. Gangaur is celebrated in monsoon, harvest and martial fidelity. Women worship maa Gauri, the consort of Lord Shiva with great enthusiasm and devotion.The 16-day vrat associated with Gangaur Festival began on March 13, 2017.

The word ‘Gangaur’ is literally made up of two words, ‘Gana’ and ‘Gaur’. ‘Gana’ is synonymous with Lord Shiva and ‘Gaur’ which stands for Gauri or Parvati symbolizes Saubhagya (marital bliss). Gauri is the personification of excellence and marital love.

Married women worship for the welfare, health and longevity of their husbands and cheerful married life. While the unmarried women worship Gauri for blessing them with good husband.

Married and unmarried women who participate in the ritual offer worship to Gangaur Mata idol for 16 days.
