Gautam H Bambawale on Thursday appointed as the next ambassador to the People's Republic of China. He is presently serving as High Commissioner of India to Pakistan.

Gautam H Bambawale on Thursday appointed as the next ambassador to the People's Republic of China. He is presently serving as High Commissioner of India to Pakistan.

Bambawale is believed to be an expert on China. He became the first Consul General of India in Guangzhou, China, in 2007.

Earlier, Bambawale served as Indian ambassador to Bhutan.

In the past, Bambawale has worked in Germany, US and China.

Bambawale was the Joint Secretary (East Asia) in the foreign ministry headquarters from December, 2009 to July, 2014. He was responsible for relations with China, Japan and South Korea, among others.
