With folded hands and warm hug, ever-smiling Supriya Sule welcomed cousin Ajit Pawar right outside Maharashtra Sadan for the special session of the state Assembly that saw all 288 MLAs taking oath on Wednesday. The rebel NCP leader’s ‘ghar wapasi’ moment saw Sule walking towards Pawar. The warm hug, which was captured by numerous media persons, showcased that all was well within the Pawar family. Though Ajit Pawar looked visibly subdued, Sule’s gracious welcome was a way of telling the world that the rebel has returned home. Since the November 23’s stunning events, this was the first time that the brother-sister duo met publicly. On Tuesday, there were reports that Ajit PAwar had met both his uncle Sharad Pawar and cousin Supriya Sule at Mumbai’s Trident Hotel. However, nothing was confirmed officially.

This very public display of sisterly affection shows that Sule is ready for her new role in the Nationalist Congress Party. It was a common notion that Ajit Pawar was the political heir-apparent of Sharad Pawar’s legacy. However, this rebellion has proved that it won’t be easy for Ajit Pawar to mobilise the NCP cadre. On the other hand, Supriya Sule’s control over NCP has notched up. The way she ushered in all 54 NCP lawmakers, Sule made her point that it as she, who would carry the legacy of Sharad Pawar. Talking to reporters, Sule said that, "I've never had a rift with Dada (Ajit Pawar). Everyone has a role in the NCP. It's their duty to carry the party forward."
