Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar refuses to comment on Monserratte's case

Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar today refused to comment on the investigations on the complaint of rape filed against former State Education Minister Atanasio Monserratte.

“I don’t want to comment on the case or investigations. All I can say is that the Crime Branch is doing a good job,” Parsekar said responding to a question by reporters in State Secretariate today.

Crime Branch arrested Monserratte on May 5 after a 16-year-old girl alleged that she was ‘bought’ by the expelled Congress legislator for Rs 50 lakh and was raped in March this year.

Police have also arrested the mother of the girl and another woman Rosy Ferros for allegedly selling the minor the MLA from St Cruz constituency.

Monserratte is currently in police custody and would be produced before the court tomorrow as his remand expires.

The legislator has refuted all the charges against him claiming the case as an attempt to politically weaken him.

He has also said the girl was working in his showroom, but was dismissed from services after she was found stealing.

Crime Branch, which is investigating the case has claimed that they have recovered the blood stained bedsheet and clothes which were used on the day of offence by the victim.
