Goa chief minister Manohar Parrikar, who was admitted to a private hospital in Mumbai for a review health check-up on Saturday shifted to Delhi AIIMS on the advice of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to undergo medical tests, according to sources.

"Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar travel to Delhi today for health checkup at All India Institute of Medical Sciences," the news agency ANI reported later in the day.

A senior official from the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) told ANI Parrikar will be flying to Delhi around 01:00 pm today by a special flight and would be admitted to AIIMS for his follow-up treatment.

"Goa CM will reach AIIMS, Delhi at 1 pm today. Amit Shah and Modi ji are monitoring the situation in Goa. Portfolios that were with CM will be distributed among ministers so that administration runs smoothly. Parrikar ji will continue to serve as CM," Michael Lobo from Goa Legislative Assembly said.

On Friday, Parrikar spoke to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah over the phone, who enquired about his health.

Meanwhile, the Goa BJP held a meeting of its state-level core committee and there are speculations that Parrikar will hand over the charge to someone as the state’s administration is in the doldrums.

Earlier this year, Parrikar, 62, had undergone treatment in the United States for nearly three months following the complaint a pancreatic ailment and returned to India in last week of June. He went to the US again early August for a follow-up. He then returned to Panaji on August 22 and the next day flew to Mumbai.

Parrikar had met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on August 7 and sought his intervention to address the current crisis in the state's mining sector.
