Most trains from Gorakhpur Station are running late by 8 to 10 hours leaving passengers waiting on the platforms. They are not even informed of the correct status and schedule of the departure and arrival of trains.

Passengers who rely on the timetable provided by the Railways are the worst hit by these delays. This is the situation when winters have not set in and there is no fog.

North Eastern Railway is passing the buck to other agencies. NE Railway officials say that trains from their end are leaving on time and reach the other divisions as per the schedule but they don’t know why they get late from there onwards.

The following trains were way behind the schedule on Thursday:

Train no. 15910 Lalgarh-Dibrugarh express was late by 13 hours, Train no 05553 05553 Saharsa -Ambala Cantt. was late by 29 hours, and Train no 15224 New Delhi-New Jalpaiguri Express was late by 20 hours.

It is also reported that the websites are not updating the statuses because of which many passengers are not able to board trains.

Sanjay Yadav, CPRO North Eastern Railway says, “It is reported that most trains get late after they cross Lucknow because the traffic on Lucknow-Delhi route is very heavy whereas there are only two tracks to manage this traffic.

“The trains that are already running late are stopped to make way for other express trains which are causing a big loss to North Eastern Railway.”

Even as the winters are approaching it is high time that the Railways take drastic remedial measures so that fog-related delays can be checked.
