Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday directed the authorities to register FIR against principal of BRD Hospital, Gorakhpur and five others in the mass child deaths matter.
The decision came after the a high-power committee probing the tragic deaths of children in Gorakhpur’s BRD Medical College submitted its report state Chief Secretary, who passed it on to the CM.
On August 12, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi had said the committee would probe the entire matter related to the tragic deaths of at least 72 children that took place in a span of about a week. The committee is headed by Chief Secretary Rajiv Kumar.
“It is a very emotional matter for me as I have been raising the issue of encephalitis since long,” he had then said.

“A high-level probe under the chief secretary has been ordered, whose report will be obtained at the earliest, and accordingly stringent action will be initiated against the guilty. Till then for the irresponsible act, we are suspending the principal of BRD Medical College with immediate effect,” UP Medical Education Minister Ashutosh Tandon had told reporters in Gorakhpur on the same day.
Meanwhile, a three-member team of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has charged the administration with negligence, saying no alert was issued regarding shortage of oxygen.
The treating doctors should have been alerted seven days in advance that oxygen supply was not being received, the IMA had said on August 18.
