Gorkhaland state stakeholders have ended their hunger strike on Monday, a day after Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh appealed to them.

The indefinite bandh called by the Gorkhaland state stakeholders under the banner of Gorkhaland Movement Coordination Committee (GMCC) entered its 61st day.

Members of Twelve Gorkha Janmukti Yuva Morcha had started fast-unto-death agitation in the hill region of West Bengal on July 21 as part of their stir to press in demand for a separate Gorkhaland state.

On Sunday, Singh had met members of GMCC in Delhi.

“We lifted the fast-unto-death from our stir to respect the request made by the union home minister,” said Gorkhaland Janmukti Morcha (GJM) president Bimal Gurang to media.

The members of GMCC gave Singh a memorandum detailed with the demands.

On Sunday, Singh had also appealed West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to initiate talks with Gorkhaland state stakeholders.
