The Centre on Wednesday appointed senior IPS officer Rajiv Rai Bhatnagar as Director General of Central Reserve Police Force.
The move comes two days after 25 personnel of the force were massacred by Naxals in Chhattisgarh. The post was lying vacant for past two months and the opposition leaders had raised questions about government’s sincerity.
At present, Bhatnagar, a 1983 batch IPS officer, is posted as Director General, Narcotics Control Bureau.
The Government has also appointed R. K. Pachnanda, who is also a 1983 batch IPS officer, as Director General, Indo-Tibetan Border Police. He is currently posted as Director General, National Disaster Response Force.Â
The paramilitary force was headless for nearly two months after the retirement of K Durga Prasad on February 28.
