Making feasible affordability to people, the government may include some other medical devices after cardiac stents. The government may bring around 14 medical devices under a price regulation in future.
The list includes orthopedic implants, intraocular lenses, artificial heart valves syringes, needles and catheters.
The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) of Department of pharmaceuticals started examining of such devices, and asked them to reveal manufacturing cost in detail.
While to talking to an English daily, NPPA chairman Bhupendra Singh said they are leaving no stone unturned in collecting data on these devices, and it would give them a sense to understand about the volume of consumption, cost of manufacturing and price these manufacturers pass on to a patient.
