Govt to deal with the issue resolutely: Rijiju on ISIS video

The Centre will deal with “very seriously” the issue of the Islamic State’s propaganda video in which the terror groups ‘cadres’ vowed to launch strikes in India, Union Minister Kiren Rijiu said today. According to the Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, the ISIS’ ideology does not have much scope to thrive in the country even as he assured initiating action in the matter.

“By and large, the Indian society is not subscribed to such violent ideology,” Rijiju told reporters while responding to a query on the purported video in which certain youths were seen calling for “avenging the deaths of Muslims” in the country.

“Even Muslim leadership has strongly condemned ISIS’ move to lure Indian Muslim youths,” he said, adding only a very small section of the community is carried away by such moves.

The video, mostly in Arabic, says ‘Jihadis’ from ‘Hind’ wal ‘Sindh’ (India and Pakistan) “will soon take revenge” for the demolition of Babri Mosque and “atrocities on Muslims in Kashmir and during Muzaffarnagar riots”.

“We assure that we will deal with this very seriously and action would be initiated,” Rijiju said.

He said the Union government has already registered six cases of some youths “getting attached” to ISIS and that many have been arrested.

“The investigations in all the cases are on,” he added. On the killing of a Congolese national in Delhi in an alleged racial attack, Rijiju said the government will issue directions to all police stations across the country to be sensitive about any racial discrimination.

“The police stations in the places where the number of foreign tourist arrivals is more will have to be more sensitive,” he added.
