Amid reports of Kashmiri leaders being arrested over abrogation of Article 370 from the valley, former CM Mehbooba Mufti’s daughter, Sana Iltija Javed said that the government wants to break her mother’s spirit. Referring the revocation of article 370 as ‘unconstitutional’, she added, “I think they (Central government) are just petrified about the backlash.”
According to a Hindustan Times report, Sana also has been confined to her house in Srinagar. “Nobody is being allowed to even meet me. I am just an ordinary Kashmiri, an Indian citizen. Why are they scared of a young woman who has nothing to do with politics? Do we have no rights and liberties?” she was quoted by HT as saying.
Sana was with her mother Mehbooba Mufti when the later was arrested and taken away. Sana said that she sent several messages to the police seeking permission to meet her mother.
Mehbooba had warned the central government of ‘catastrophic consequences’ for the move to abrogate Article 370. "It will have catastrophic consequences for the subcontinent. GOIs intentions are clear. They want the territory of J&K by terrorising its people”, she said.
Both Mehbooba Mufti and Omar Abdullah have been opposing the Centre’s move to abrogate Article 370 from the Valley. They were put under house arrest with several other mainstream Kashmiri leaders on Sunday night ahead of the announcement to scrap the special status of Kashmir.
In an unprecedented move that is likely to spark unrest in the Valley, the Narendra Modi government on Monday scrapped part of Article 370 of the Indian Constitution that gives special status to Jammu and Kashmir. Union Home Minister Amit Shah also moved a resolution in the Lok Sabha for bringing a bill to reorganise the state of Jammu and Kashmir into two union territories of Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh amid a walkout by opposition parties.
