'Howdy Modi' Event Would Be New Milestone In India-USA Ties: PM Before Leaving For US

Hours before leaving for the US to attend the mega "Howdy, Modi" event, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said he is looking forward to his meeting with United States President Donald Trump in Houston and New York in a span of few days. Together with President Trump, Modi said they will review their bilateral relations to bring more benefits to the people of the two nations. The prime minister is scheduled to embark on a seven-day visit to the US on Friday night.

"I look forward to my meeting with President Donald Trump. Shared values, convergent interests and complementary strengths provide the strong foundations for a natural partnership between the world's oldest and largest democracies," Modi wrote on Twitter ahed of his visit to the US.

Prime Minister Modi will be travelling to the US on September 21 and is scheduled to return to Delhi on September 27. During his seven-day visit, Modi will be attending the 'Howdy Modi' diaspora event on September 22 along with President Trump. The two leaders will also address the UN General Assembly in New York on September 27.

On the first leg of his visit, Modi, accompanied with Trump, will address Indian-America community at the much-hyped "Howdy Modi" event on September 22 at 10:15 am local time ((7:45 pm IST) in Houston. On the sidelines of the event, Modi would be interacting with top energy sector CEOs, various groups of Indians based there and top-ranking leaders of the US.

"On Sunday, the 22nd at 10:15 AM local time there would be a large community programme in Houston. We are honoured that President Donald Trump is gracing the programme with his presence. This gathering would be a new milestone in India-USA ties," the prime minister tweeted with hashtag #HowdyModi.

Giving a blueprint of his New York visit, Modi said, "In New York City, a large part of the programmes will be at the United Nations. Since its inception, India has been actively participating in various programmes and initiatives of the UN, reflecting our unwavering commitment to multilateralism. My address at the UNGA would be on the 27th".

"Key events I would be attending at the United Nations are the Climate Action Summit, an event on Universal Health Coverage, and opening plenary of the Bloomberg Global Business Forum. These forums will give opportunities to showcase India’s efforts to build peaceful and prosperous world," PM Narendra Modi wrote in a series of tweets.

At the UN, Modi said India will also host a programme to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. "The event, which would be graced by world leaders, will showcase the rich thoughts of Gandhi Ji," he wrote in another tweet.

In his farewell messages on Twitter, the prime minister added India has taken many efforts to improve cleanliness and sanitation to fulfill Gandhi Ji's dream of a Swachh Bharat over the last five years. Last but not the least, Modi thanked the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for honouring him with the Global Goalkeepers Goals Award 2019.
