Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Friday met with Gujarat Dalit leader and convener of Rashtriya Dalit Adhikar Manch Jignesh Mevani in Navsari district of Gujarat. Mewani claimed that the opposition party had assured to incorporate "more than 90 per cent" of his demands in its manifesto for the upcoming state Assembly election.

Gandhi and Mevani had a half-an-hour long closed-door meeting at a farmhouse on the outskirts of Navsari.

The latter had announced that he would not extend his support to any political party before Assembly polls.

The 182-member Gujarat Assembly is scheduled to go to the polls in two phases - on December 9 and December 14.

"We listen to everyone and work after hearing their problems -- be it Jignesh, Hardik (Patidar quota stir leaderHardik Patel) or Alpesh (OBC leader Alpesh Thakor)," Rahul Gandhi said after the meeting.

Earlier in the day, Congress spokesperson Manish Doshi said,"Jignesh Mevani and other Dalit leaders had met Ashok Gehlot (Congress' Gujarat affairs in-charge) earlier and presented a set of demands to him." (With PTI Inputs)
