The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has bagged 43 out of the 75 municipalities in Gujarat Civic Polls 2018, while the Congress continued its resurgence in the western state and won 26 Nagar Palikas, 10 more than its previous count.
Four municipalities went to Others’ kitty while there was a tie on three Nagar Palikas.
After the high octane Assembly elections that witnessed a close fight between BJP and Congress, the political rivals were up against each other in the Gujarat Civic Polls and the ruling party once again emerged victoriously.
However, the challenge for BJP was to keep its stronghold in its bastion after a close fight in the recent Assembly elections, while the Congress had the task to gain its lost ground.
The elections for 75 Nagar Palikas (municipalities), two district panchayats, 17 talukas and 1400 village panchayats were held on Saturday.
