Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel’s son was stopped by authorities on Monday from boarding a Qatar Airways flight to Greece after he was found ‘heavily drunk’ and indulged in an argument with the airlines staff, officials said.
Jaimin Patel, who was accompanied by his wife Jhalak and daughter Vaishvi were prevented from boarding the plane, which was scheduled to take off at 4 AM. When Jaimin Patel reached the Ahmedabad International Airport to board the Qatar Airways flight, he was unable to walk because of his inebriated state, reports said.
When he went through the immigration and other checks in a wheelchair because he couldn’t walk properly as he was in a drunken state, airport officials said.
"Jaimin Patel was prevented from boarding the flight. He also had an argument with the staff of the airways," the official added.
Meanwhile, Nitin Patel has said that this was a ploy to defame him and that his son was unwell. "My son, his wife and daughter were going for a vacation. He was not feeling well."
"His wife called up home and then it was decided to return home and not proceed," the 60-year-old minister added.
"Our opponents are trying to tarnish our image by spreading false and mischievous information," he said.
