In a huge win for Patidar agitators, the Gujarat government on Friday declared 10 pc reservations in jobs and higher education institution for the economically-backward class from all non-reserved castes. The new quota will be addition to the existing 49 pc in the state.
The new quota will benefit to the members of all the upper class communities, including Patidars, Brahmins, Kshtriyas and Lohana among others. The decision came after the stir of politically and economically influential Patidars in state. The Patidars are staunch supporters of BJP from last three decades.
The Gujarat government will bring out an ordinance in this regard on May 1, the foundation day of the state. But the new quota system will bring other communities like Kappu, Jats to intensify their protest in Andhra and Haryana respectively.
