Political Secretary of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Ahmed Patel holds a key position in the grand-old party. He is one of the few leaders, who are involved in the decision-making process in the Congress. Born on August 21, 1949 in Gujarat’s Bharuch, he completed his graduation from Shree Jayendra Puri Arts and Science College.
Talking about his political career, he was first elected as the member of the 6th Lok Sabha in 1977. But he served the term only for two years till 1979. He again served as the MP from 1980 to 1984. Besides this, he was holding a key position in the Congress party. The leader became the Joint Secretary of the All India Congress Committee in 1983. His political graph has been growing since he entered into Indian politics.

Patel is one of the few political politicians who are having good terms with the leaders of other parties. He was even close to Prime Minister Narendra Modi when the latter was the Chief Minister of Gujarat.
As far as his Rajya Sabha’s term is concerned, he served his first term as a member of the upper house in the year 1993. Then he got re-elected in 1993, 1999, 2005, 2011 and 2017.
