Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Singh serving 20 years jail term for raping two of his followers is now earning Rs 20 per day by growing vegetables at Sunaria jail in Haryana’s Rohtak.

According to a prison official the self proclaimed godman is growing vegetables in a small plot of land measuring around 900 square yards, attached to his barrack. He shares the barrack with three other life convicts.

“He has been tasked to grow vegetables in the vacant plot, a job that falls in the category of unskilled labour” said director general of Haryana prisons KP Singh.

The Dera Sacha Sauda chief will get a daily wage of Rs. 20 each day for working eight hours.

“The daily wage he will be getting is the rate for unskilled labour in Haryana jails,” said a prison official.

The official added for now Singh has been preparing the vacant plot for sowing the vegetables and tend trees.

The Dera chief has been provided with two books including a Bhagwat Gita and two pairs of slippers by the jail authorities.
