Heavy rainfall likely to hit several parts of India in next 24 hours

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected to hit large parts of India in the next 24 hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Tuesday.

The north-western plains of India, including Punjab, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and most parts of Uttar Pradesh, are likely to receive moderate to heavy rainfall. Jammu and Kashmir and west Rajasthan may also receive heavy rainfall, the weatherman said.

According to reports, a cyclonic circulation was seen over North Coastal Odisha in mid-levels and another cyclonic circulation over Haryana in low levels.

Owing to the cyclonic storm prevailing over Malda, North and South Dinajpur districts, the MeT office warned heavy to very heavy with extremely heavy rainfall to hit the Gangetic West Bengal for the next two to three days.

According to the weatherman, a feeble trough will likely run through from interior Kerala to South Tamil Nadu and parts of the coastal Karnataka, Konkan, Goa and Andaman and Nicobar Island.

Moderate to heavy downpour are likely to occur over Northeast Bihar and North Coastal Odisha on Tuesday, MeT said.

The axis of monsoon trough is likely to prolong in most parts of the northeast region, including Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, MeT said.

MeT office warns of heavy rainfall in Gangetic West Bengal 

It said that in parts of central plains of India, including east Madhya Pradesh and isolated places in west Madhya Pradesh, Virdarbha and Chhattisgarh, light to moderate rain is expected.

Meanwhile, Kolkata recorded maximum temperature at 33.0-degree Celsius, New Delhi at 34.5 degree Celsius, and Chennai and Mumbai at 38.2 and 29.5-degree Celsius respectively on Tuesday.
