Heavy rains in Gujarat, Rajasthan and other parts of the country sees flooded streets, choked traffic and distrupting normal life. The worsening floods killed another eight people in Gujarat, taking the toll to 82, as rescue teams stepped up efforts to save thousands of people marooned in submerged towns and villages.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi carried out an aerial survey on Tuesday of the worst-hit Banaskantha and Patan districts in his home state where Army, IAF, NDRF and local teams have intensifiedrescue and relief operations.
The Prime minister also and chaired a meeting with Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, Patel and top officials of the state government to take stock of the situation.

With most of the rivers in Assam flowing below the danger mark, the overall flood situation inthe state saw a marked improvement on Wednesday but the death toll rose to 77 after a person was reportedly washed away in Hojai. Currently, a population of 23,118 is still affected by this wave of floods in nine districts, according to the report of Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).
Around 4,716 inmates are housed in 19 relief camps. Chief Secretary V K Pipersenia on Wednesday apprised a seven-member inter-ministerial Central team, on the prevailing floods and measures taken by the state government to deal with the situation.
In Odhisa, though the water level in the major rivers of north Odisha showed a declining trend todaydue to less rainfall in the catchment areas in the last 12 hours, around 40 villages in Keonjhar and Bhadrak districts remained marooned in the state, said officials.
Two blocks in Bhadrak district -- Bhandaripokhari and Dhamnagar -- were affected, an official statement issued by the Special Relief Commissioner's (SRC) office said, addingthat about 25 villages of Bhandaripokhari block were affecteddue to the floods caused by the Baitarani river there. About 20,411 residents of the block were affected.About 200 hectares of crop-land in the block and another 654 hectares in Dhamnagar block of Bhadrak district remained submerged in the flood waters, SRC sources said.
Rains disrupted normal life in several parts of Jharkhand with many rivers, including Damodar, Konar and Siwane, in spate.

The district administrations of Ranchi, East Singhbhum, Hazaribagh, Bokaro and Giridih have declared a holiday on Wednesday for students up to class 8 in view of incessant rains, official sources said.
In Bihar, light rainfall occurred at a few places in the northern part of the state, while heavy showers were witnessed at a few places in the south west, a MeT bulletin said.
The national capital too witnessed scattered rains that brought down the mercury. The maximum temperature settled at 32.5 degrees Celsius, two notches below the season’s average.
Dharamshala, which received 55 mm rainfall, was the wettest place in Himachal Pradesh, while moderate downpour was witnessed in several parts of the state.
