Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur on Tuesday inaugurated a four-day-long national level Holi festival at Sujanpur Tira.
Thakur paid obeisance in the famous Murli Manohar temple before carrying out a 'Shobha Yatra'.
The historical Sujanpur Holi festival was the initiative of the erstwhile king of Sujanpur, Raja Sansar Chand, who started the tradition of celebrating the festival of colours with the public.
"Fairs and festivals reflect our rich cultural heritage for which the state was known internationally," the chief minister said.
The chief minister also applied Gulaal to former chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal and others present there.

Thakur launched a website designed to popularise and project the culture and customs of the district besides highlighting the importance of various fairs and festivals with a detailed reference of the historical places including forts and palaces of Hamirpur district.
The website will also help to promote tourism in the state, said Deputy Commissioner of Hamirpur Rakesh Prajapati.
