Launching a scathing attack on Congress party in the poll-bound hill state, Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday asserted that Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh was "embarrassing" the people of Himachal Pradesh by not stepping down from his post despite facing several allegations of corruption.

Addressing a public meeting in Balh, Singh said corruption should not be tolerated and each political party must ensure that if any leader is accused of any corruption, and there is a prima facie case against him or her, then the leader should offer his or her resignation.

Rajnath said, "Despite several allegations of corruption, the chief minister of Himachal Pradesh continues to hold the post which is embarrassing for the people of the state."

Highlighting the Narendra Modi government's seriousness in ensuring clean and corruption-free governance, Singh said strong action against shell companies and business enterprises were taken and so far more than three lakh such entities were penalised.

Referring to demonetisation, the home minister said the people had accepted the decision and acknowledged the honest intentions of the government even though they had to face some difficulties.

Addressing another rally at Nachan, Singh, a senior BJP leader, said ever since the BJP formed the government at the Centre, it never allowed any discrimination against anyone.

The home minister also highlighted various development programmes being implemented by the NDA government at the Centre for the inclusive development of people. (With PTI Inputs)
