Over 700 tourists are still stranded in snow-marooned Lahaul-Spiti district in Himachal Pradesh, according to reports. The National Highway-3 between Kullu and Manali has also been blocked due to damages in local bridge caused by landslides. Nine persons were airlifted from Baralacha Pass and dropped at Kullu after the rescue operations resumed early morning. Kullu and Lahaul-Spiti were the worst affected districts caused by the heavy rainfall in the state.

The NH-3 between Kullu to Manali where traffic movement was resumed yesterday has been blocked again due to damages on local bridge caused by landslide. Right Bank Road also closed. Restoration work underway, road to be opened for one-way traffic from Manali to Kullu, ANI tweeted.


In view of the rain havoc in the state, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday assured all assistance to Himachal Pradesh, and Punjab. 

"Spoke to Himachal Pradesh CM @jairamthakurbjp Ji and Punjab CM @capt amarinder Singh Ji regarding the flood situation in Himachal Pradesh and Punjab," Modi tweeted.

An spokesperson of the Himachal Pradesh government said in Shimla that Prime Minister Modi called Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur to enquire about the situation in the state following the rains. Thakur apprised Modi that the state had suffered losses to the tune of Rs 1,250 crore due to heavy rains during the current monsoon, the spokesperson said.

Incessant rains triggered flash floods and landslides in hill states of northern India, leaving at least 11 people dead in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Haryana. Several people were evacuated on Tuesday and missing IIT students were located on Monday, according to reports.
