New Delhi:

Senior Congress leader and parliamentarian Shashi Tharoor on Friday responded to the controversy over his “Hindu Pakistan” remark in a “musical” way.

Tharoor posted a link of legendary Bollywood singer Kishore Kumar's 'Kuch to log kahengey' (People will say something) song from the 1971 hit Bollywood movie 'Amar Prem' with a hashtag #HinduPakistan.

The response from the Thiruvananthapuram MP came after the Congress party advised its leaders to wisely choose their words and phraseology while criticising the ‘hatred’ being spread by the BJP.

"India's values and fundamentals are an unequivocal guarantee of our civilisational role & set us apart from the divisive idea of Pakistan.

“All Congress leaders must realise this historic responsibility bestowed upon us while choosing words and phraseology to reject BJP's hatred,” Congress Randeep Singh Surjewala said in a series of tweets.

Tharoor had triggered a massive controversy with his remarks that the BJP will change the Constitution of India and make the country a ‘Hindu Pakistan’ if voted to power in 2019.

“If they (BJP) win a repeat in the Lok Sabha our democratic constitution as we understand it will not survive as they will have all the elements they need to tear apart the constitution of India and write a new one. That new one will be the one which will enshrine principles of Hindu Rashtra, that will remove equality for minorities, that'll create a Hindu Pakistan," the Congress leader had said during an event in his constituency.

The BJP took the strong exception to Tharoor’s remarks and demanded an apology from him and Congress president Rahul Gandhi.
