New Delhi :

Home Minister Rajnath Singh today reviewed the security situation in violence-hit Kashmir Valley and along the Indo-Pak border areas in the state where several infiltration attempts have been made in the recent past.

Top officials, including Union Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi and chiefs of intelligence agencies, briefed the Home Minister on the prevailing situation in the state and the steps taken to maintain law and order.

Kashmir Valley has been on edge for 53 days following the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen militant Burhan Wani on July 8.

The meeting had a discussion on the report of a committee which suggested alternatives to pellet guns, often used in the Valley for controlling crowds. However, no decision has been taken on it, sources said.

The Home Minister was also briefed about the situation along the border where there have been several attempts of infiltration by militants from across the border, they said. Singh has visited the Valley twice since the turmoil began and met a cross section of the people in an effort to restore peace.

An all-party delegation will also visit the state beginning September 4 and will meet individuals, groups and political leaders in a fresh attempt to bring peace.
