August 5th will be one year of Revocation of Article 370 and Since then Security forces have managed to neutralize more than 150 Militants in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir.
2020 has by far been the most successful year for the security forces. In the first 6 months of the year, around 142 Militants have been killed in various encounters across the valley. In June only, 48 Militants were killed in Joint Operations and Majority of them from South Kashmir.
Secuirty forces also claim to have killed 6 top commanders of various terror outfits like Hizb, Jaish and Lashker e Toiba. The top commanders killed this year include Riyaz Naikoo, Junaid Sehrai, Waleed Bhai, and Ishfaq. And with the killings of the leadership, they have managed to break the back of these outfits.
The big crack down on Over the Ground Workers (OGW) has been the focus of the Jammu Kashmir Police. More than 150 OGW's have been arrested this year and they have been a great help for security forces to bust Hide Outs etc across the Valley.
Focus on Human Intelligence has also been primary this year for the forces to take on Militants. Hundreds of Cordon and Search Operations across the valley have led to many successful Operations with least collateral Damage. Around 6 active militants were arrested by security forces in 2020.
Jammu Kashmir Police IG Vijay Kumar has tweeted and said that its for the first time in decades that Sringar has been Militant free. Earlier Police had claimed that Tral area of South Kashmir has been Militant free as well. Last militant in the Doda area was killed as well and it was declared as militant free as well.
What has been another success for forces is the recruitment, Police have said that recruitment of the militants into terror outfits this year has gone down by 50 percent. Not many local boys are choosing to join these outfits and Police say that it's a sign of things returning to normalcy.
One of the Major challenges has been the LoC. Dozens of Infiltration bids have been foiled by the army at the Line of Control. But reports also suggest that some Militants managed to sneak in. The surveillance across the LoC has been beefed up which has resulted in many operations at the LoC in which around a dozen militants have been killed this year.
Police and Army have said that more than 250 terrorists across the border are at launch pads waiting to infiltrate in the valley.
