Hue of saffron in Rajinikanth's politics, alliance unlikely, says Kamal Haasan

Actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan on Saturday said, a political alliance with his contemporary superstar Rajinikanth is not possible as there is a “hue of saffron” in the latter’s politics.

Both Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth have announced their entry in the politics and call themselves as the “agents of change” who dream of creating a "corruption-free” Tamil Nadu.

The question whether Kamal Haasan will join hands with “good friend” Rajinikanth has been making rounds ever since the latter announced his political entry on December 31.

“There is a hue of saffron in Rajni's politics. If that doesn't change then I don't see an alliance with him. We are good friends but politics is different,” news agency ANI quoted Kamal Haasan as saying.

However, he didn’t clearly rule out the possibility of an alliance with Rajini and said: "red is not my political complexion" and if Rajinikanth’s colour is not saffron, the alliance is likely.

Rajinikanth himself has also kept the doors open for Haasan and has said “only time will tell” in his response to similar queries.

While speaking at the Harvard University in US, the 63-year-old Haasan said, “it’s not like choosing a star cast for movies” adding that they both will mutually decide whether there is a need for an alliance.

Kamal Haasan is expected to announce the name of his political party on February 21 at Rameswaram and launch a state-wide political tour called "Nalai Namadhe" which means tomorrow is ours.
