Hours after Junaid Ahmed Sehrai, son of Tehereek-e-Hurriyat’s new chief Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai, photographs went viral on social media claiming he had joined the home grown militant outfit Hizbul Mujahideen, the family reported his missing complaint.

The development has been confirmed by Jammu and Kashmir’s director general of police (DGP) S P Vaid.

The photos doing rounds on the social media shows the 30-year-old Junaid posing with an assault rifle.

According to the photographs, the embedded text claims that Junaid’s name in the banned militant group is “Amaar Bhai” and he has joined the Hizbul Mujahideen ranks. The image also claims that the Hurriyat chief’s son holds an MBA degree.

The propaganda photograph making rounds in the social media claims that Junaid joined the Hizbul Mujahideen ranks on March 24.

“His family members told the police that Junaid left his house in Srinagar’s Bhagat locality for Friday prayer but did not return after that,” said an inspector rank police officer.

The officer add that the family hails from north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
