Hurriyat leader Hafizullah Mir shot dead in South Kashmir's Achabal

Tehreek-e-Hurriyat leader Hafizullah Mir was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in south Kashmir's Achabal area of south Kashmir on Tuesday. Mir was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition but succumbed to injuries during the treatment. According to reports, Mir was at his home in Akingam area of Achabal when assailants barged inside and started indiscriminate fired. During the attack, Mir's wife had also sustained serious bullet injuries and was undergoing treatment. 

Hafizullah Mir was the Anantnag district president of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat - a separatist political party of Syed Ali Shah Geelani. Meanwhile, the police have registered a case under relevant sections and launched an investigation into the matter.
