New Delhi:

The IAF Mi-17 V5 helicopter that crashed on Friday morning near Tawang killing seven military personnel, was possibly caused due to disengagement of the chopper’s tail rotor, informed Indian Air Force chief marshal BS Dhanoa on Sunday.

In the crash Twang Mi-75 crash, five IAF personnel and two Indian Army personnel were killed.

The Russian-manufactured helicopter was carrying supplies to a forward post of the Indian Army in the mountainous region near the Sino-India border.

Dhanoa said, “Prima Facie it appears that the tail rotor of the chopper had come off. A court of inquiry has been ordered to probe the crash.”

Dhanoa further added that there was no Mi-17 V5 engine as the fleet is still flying.

“I think there is no problem in the machine as the chopper is flying even today,” he added.

Mi-17 is a Russian made helicopter It is a medium twin-turbine transport helicopter.
