Manipur BJP leader caught with drugs worth Rs 40 crore

A huge quantity of heroin and party drugs worth around Rs 40 crore were seized from the house of a BJP leader and the chairman of Autonomous District Council (ADC) Lunkhosei Zou in Manipur’s Chandel district.

A team of police raided the official residence of Zou on Wednesday night. During the raid, the police recovered four kilogramme of heroin and 2,80,000 tablets of party drugs from the BJP leader’s possession.

“Four kilogramme of heroin and 2,80,000 tablets of party drugs were recovered from his possession,” Superintendent of Police, Narcotics and Affairs of Border (NAB), W Basu Singh said during a press conference.

Apart from the heroin and party drugs, the police team also seized a sum of Rs 13 lakh from his house during the raid, the SP said.

The police have arrested the BJP leader and seven other people in connection with the case.

Meanwhile, hours after Zou’s arrest, BJP state president K Bhabananda Singh expelled his from the party with an immediate effect for “anti-party activities”.
