Amid heightened tension with India over abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution, Pakistan Army General (retired) Ghulam Mustafa, in an unexpected move, on Sunday publicly accepted the former's better ability of military and strategic thinking than that of their own country.

Speaking to a Pakistani news channel, Mustafa said India has always been one step ahead of Pakistan in planning and that they could not foresee Narendra Modi government's decision to scrap Article 370 of the Constitution.

"Pakistan did not think that Modi would take this step. We do not think of the future, Pakistan has narrow thinking. In India, there is a culture of strategic thinking which is lacking in Pakistan," the General said, in connection to the revocation of Article 370 by the Indian government.

Mustafa also gave a mention to the 1965 Indo-Pakistani War, reiterating Pakistan's failure to envisage India crossing the International Border and opening a front at Lahore and Sialkot. "They surprised us by hitting us where we least expected," he said, adding that Pakistan always misses a strategic thinking apparatus.

On foreign countries from across the globe backing India over its Jammu and Kashmir move, the General said, "The International community would buy our narrative only when they will have vested interest in Pakistan like they have in India".

Tension has escalated between India and Pakistan following former’s decision to revoke the Article 370 of the Constitution, stripping the special status to Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcate the state into two Union Territories – Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
