Prime Miniter Narendra Modi on Monday signed six MoUs with his Australian counterpart Malcolm Turnbull. The agreements include matters of cooperation on terrorism and organised crime.
Turnbull, who is on four-day India visit, received a ceremonial welcome at the Rashtrapati Bhavan earlier in the day.
The two leaders seem to be mutually in admiration of each others' administration in their respective countries.
“Achievements of India are the admiration of the World. We look forward to working even more closely than we have done in past,” Australian PM said in the morning. (Read full story here)
While PM Modi piled praises on Turnbull during their joint statement before signing MoUs, "India and Australia have made major strides in our bilateral relationship in recent years. Under your leadership our relationship has touched new milestones, PM Modi said.
During the joint statement, PM Modi reiterated his faith in the bilateral relations between the two nations.
"We reviewed the entire gamut of bilateral relations; a number of forward-looking decisions taken to further strengthen our partnership," he said.
PM Modi also emphasised on peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific, saying challenges like terrorism and cyber-security require global strategy and solutions.
"We are aware that in this globalised world challenges like terrorism and cyber-security extend beyond boundaries of our regions," PM Modi said.
Meanwhile, during his address Australian PM ensured that his country would continue to be open for Indian students, "We will continue to ensure that we provide outstanding opportunities for Indian students," Australian PM Malcolm Turnbull said.
