Indian Foreign Secretary Subrahmanyam Jaishankar on Tuesday said that India, China must team up to put special effort on counter-terrorism. Jaishankar will co-chair the strategic dialogue between India-China that would kick off on Wednesday. It is expected that the two nations would discuss bilateral ties and border dispute during the meeting.
While talking to the Chinese media on Tuesday, the Indian foreign secretary said, “China has a very strong, principled position on counter-terrorism. We hope the position China already has will be further implemented.”
As per Global Times, the foreign secretary told that the discussions with China over counter-terrorism are part of their dialogue, and it is still on.
When asked about India’s absences from the One Belt and One Road initiative that includes the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which passes through Kashmir, a territory claimed by both sides , Jaishankar clarified, saying that for India, questions of sovereignty must be addressed first.
According to Global Times, the Indian officials from the Ministry of External Affairs and the Ministry of Finance unanimously pitched for bilateral relations and expressed their willingness to boost ties with China.
India was not amused when China did not give positive response declaring Pakistani national Masood Azhar as a terrorist by united Nations and obstructing India from becoming a member of the Nuclear Suppliers Group.
